Are you still working at home too? Although some companies are slowly starting up again, as well as that the hospitality industry is also slowly opening up again, the government still advises to work at home as much as possible. For some people this is more pleasant than for others. This depends, for example, on whether you can retreat to a quiet place, you have to deal with children sitting at home or whether you have flat mates who are constantly disturbing you. These factors all play a role in how effective your work-at-home situation is. Because we at The Dare Company have been working from home for a number of weeks now, we recognise this like no other and are therefore happy to give you a number of tips on how you can work from home even more effectively. Read on and discover our tips that really work (at home)!
Our tips
Working from home has a lot of advantages: we don't have to queue up in the morning, we can concentrate for longer because we are no longer distracted by our colleagues and we can organise our time ourselves. However, it also requires a lot of discipline and motivation. Because sitting in the sun for an hour on a lovely summer day is very tempting, or that one chore that calls can often be done in between. However, it is still important that you do as much work as you would at the office. We are happy to help you with this.
- Provide a comfortable workplace
A comfortable workplace is one of the most important points on the list of working at home tips. As tempting as it is to dive back into bed with your laptop for the first few hours of the day, or sit down on the couch, it's not good for your back. In addition, research has shown that a workstation at a desk with a comfortable office chair increases productivity during the working day at home. Furthermore, a tidy workplace is also very important, this ensures better overview and concentration.
- Dress yourself
By dressing yourself at the beginning of the day, you work more productively. This way you work in a more professional atmosphere, so you are no longer in the 'chill mode'. Would you rather work in your comfy outfit? We understand this very well, butthen we advise to put your shoes on. Success guaranteed!
- Make an effective planning / schedule of what you want to have done per day
We all know the 'to-do' lists. It is very useful to make a schedule at the beginning of the day or week and to set goals for yourself about what you want to finish. Crossing out a task you have completed will definitely make you feel satisfied. So grab those post-its or to-do lists and cross them out!
4. Make sure you can access all the necessary documents
Many of us must have noticed it the first few days of working from home: you can't access all the documents you normally use at the office. It is therefore convenient to work from a Cloud by, for example, putting your documents in a Google Drive account. This way you can access your documents from anywhere.
- Schedule online meetings
Thanks to working from home, we see our colleagues a lot less or sometimes not at all. But because some projects are collaborative and some meetings do have to take "place", it's good to keep each other informed from time to time via an online Zoom or Skype meeting. You can also choose to create special WhatsApp groups so that you are in a group with the right people for each project.
- Don't get distracted and form agreements with your roommates
Although everyone's home situation is different, everyone has to deal with distractions. Whether it is your mobile phone, your children, your little brother or your roommate who distracts you from time to time, it is important that you make arrangements with them and yourself. For example, silence your phone and put a 'do not disturb' sign on your door. Another good option is to talk about it with your family or roommates. So that they leave you alone between a certain time and you are not unnecessarily disturbed.
- Plan breaks in
It is important that you plan enough breaks for yourself during your working day. Continuing to work without rest can also reduce your concentration. Therefore, plan 2 or 3 breaks of about 10 minutes. This will allow you to get back to work with full concentration.
How do we at The Dare Company respond to these homework tips?
At The Dare Company we also notice that working from home has its advantages and its disadvantages. For some people, working from home works a lot better than for others, but this of course also depends on the specific home situation. We work with different WhatsApp groups and try to make the best of it. We do hope to see eachother more often very soon!
