The Hillegersberg King's Day Festival is an annual event in Rotterdam filled with music and fun during King's Day. The event attracts thousands of visitors every year and offers a mix of live entertainment, food stands, activities, and local partnerships.
The brief
With the name change from Koningsdag Hillegersberg to Koningsfestival Hillegersberg, there was a need for a completely revamped look. The existing branding felt outdated and no longer matched the festival’s atmosphere and vibe. The organization was looking for a modern identity that radiates energy, is more recognizable, and can evolve alongside the festival for years to come.

The challenge
The biggest challenge was modernizing the brand without losing the festival’s distinctive character. The existing logo was highly detailed and visually busy, making it difficult to apply across a wide range of marketing materials. In addition, the new style had to not only stand out during the event itself but also work effectively on posters, banners, sponsor materials, and printed media. Our goal was to develop a consistent festival brand that is instantly recognizable and gives the event a professional, contemporary look.
Our approach
A new foundation for the brand
We began by redesigning the logo. The lion was retained as a recognizable symbol, but was completely redrawn by hand in a more modern and powerful style. By simplifying the design, we created a logo that looks much stronger and is more adaptable to various formats and media.
Finding the right look
Typography with character
Based on the redesigned logo, we developed a comprehensive typographic style. For large headlines, we chose a minimalist and bold typeface that conveys a sense of calm and clarity. Combined with a playful script font for subtitles and accents, this created a style that feels energetic.
A complete festival identity
Based on the new branding, we designed all marketing materials that contribute to the overall festival experience. These include posters, sponsor banners, on-site signage, and a comprehensive sponsor booklet. For sponsors who didn’t have suitable advertising materials, we also created ads in their own corporate style, ensuring that everything remained visually cohesive.
The result
Today, the Hillegersberg King’s Festival has a strong and distinctive identity that immediately stands out among other events. The revamped branding gives the festival greater appeal, a more professional image, and a consistent visual style.
